Roy S. Stone's Obituary
Roy S. Stone, age 86, of Centerville, Iowa, died Sunday, October 3, 2004, at Mercy Hospital in Des Moines, Iowa. He was born the son of Samuel and Clara M. (Burns) Stone on January 8, 1918 near Sumner, Nebraska. He received his education in Amhurst, Nebraska.On April 5, 1969, Roy was united in marriage to Florence A. (Chapman) VanLandingham in Centerville, Iowa. Roy farmed all of his life in Appanoose County east of Centerville. Roy served his country during WWII in the US Army in Anti Aircraft division. He was a member of the 18/80 club and the First Baptist Church in Centerville, Iowa.Roy is preceded in death by: his parents; wife, Florence Stone on April 24, 2003; 5 brothers, Carl, Edgar, Ernest, Raymond and Lee Stone and 1 infant sister.He is survived by: step-daughters, Patricia and her husband, Robert Woodside of Burlington, Iowa, Christina and her husband, John Sebben of Moline, Illinois and Linda Logsdon of Centerville, Iowa; 8 step grandchildren and 14 step great grandchildren; sisters, Opal Ludwig of Browning, Missouri and Margaret Epp of Kearney, Nebraska; and many nieces and nephews.Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, October 6, 2004 at 10 am at the Schmidt Family Funeral Home in Centerville, Iowa with Rev. Lloyd Johnston officiating. Burial will follow at the Mt. Ararat Cemetery east of Centerville, Iowa with full military honors given by Centerville Veterans Organizations.
