Rose Marie Ballanger's Obituary
Rose Marie (Hersom) Ballanger 82, passed away Monday, May 5, 2025 at her home in Seymour, Iowa.
Rose was born in Fonda, Iowa to Lyle and Thelma (Layman) Hersom on October, 28, 1942. She attended the old country school in Bethlehem, Iowa before moving to Corydon where she attended Wayne Community Schools and graduated with the class of 1961. In August of 1963, Rose met the love of her life Roy Ballanger at Old Settlers in Corydon. They were married on February 21, 1964 at the Methodist Church in Corydon. They then welcomed two daughters, Regina and Reneta.
Rose was a very hard-working woman who owned her own mowing business and also shoveled snow, cleaned houses and was a babysitter to four boys to whom she thought of as her own.
Rose was the best wife, mother and grandmother who enjoyed cooking, baking, sewing, listening to Elvis Presley, watching Roy Rogers and taking care of her garden and her beautiful peony bushes.
She looked forward to spending time with all of her family. She loved baking with her grandchildren, telling them stories, especially ones about her old horse Queeny and going to all of their activities. You could always find her sitting on her porch swing with a cup of tea.
Rose was a very loving person who never knew a stranger and loved to have a good visit with everyone she met. She will be dearly missed.
Left to honor Rose's memory is her loving husband of 61 years Roy Ballanger; daughters, Regina Ballanger and Reneta Ballanger-Black (Mike); grandchildren, Colton Black, Emily Black, Mason Black and Morgan Black; sister, Darlene Hutchison along with numerous extended family and friends.
Rose was preceded in death by her parents, brother, Leo Hersom and infant brother, George Ray.
Funeral services for Rose will be held Friday, May 9, 2025 at 1:30 PM at Thomas Funeral Home in Corydon, IA with burial to follow at Livingston Cemetery. Visitation will be held Thursday, May 8, 2025 from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM at Thomas Funeral Home in Corydon. Memorials may be made to the family in honor of Rose to be determined at a later date and mailed to Thomas Funeral Home 303 E. Jefferson Corydon, Iowa 50060 Attn: Ballanger Family.
