Ronald Henry Main's Obituary
Ronald "Ron" Henry Main, age 81, of Centerville, passed away Tuesday, July 7, 2026 at Centerville Specialty Care.
Ron was born on January 23, 1945 in Brooklyn, New York, the son of Richard Earl Main and Marion (Zeltman) Main. He graduated from New Utrecht High School in Brooklyn with the Class of 1963. He joined the United States Navy on November 9, 1965. He served his country faithfully, and was honorably discharged on September 7, 1971. He was then united in marriage to Eileen Rose Carvalho, and to this union, a son, Christopher, and a daughter, Traci, were born.
Following the military, Ron began working for Johnson Controls, where he built a reputation as a dependable and hardworking employee before enjoying a well-earned retirement.
Ron found joy in the simple pleasures of life and the beauty of the world around him. Whether he was sitting beside the water with a fishing pole in hand, wandering through the outdoors and observing wildlife, or admiring the quiet peace of nature, he felt most at home outside. A talented wood carver, he had a knack for transforming ordinary pieces of wood into beautiful, handcrafted keepsakes that reflected both his creativity and patience.
Never one to shy away from learning something new, Ron enjoyed spending time on his computer, tinkering with technology and exploring its endless possibilities. His curiosity extended well beyond the digital world, as he had a lifelong fascination with UFOs, unexplained mysteries, and the questions that lie beyond what we know. He loved discussing these topics with anyone willing to entertain the conversation.
Strong in his convictions, Ron was a proud Republican who never hesitated to stand by his beliefs. Those who knew him appreciated his honesty, independent spirit, and willingness to speak his mind. Above all, he will be remembered as a man who cherished the outdoors, embraced his unique interests, and lived life true to himself.
Those left to honor Ron's memory are his wife of 55 years, Eileen Main; his daughter, Traci Main; his son, Christopher Main; as well as several extended family members.
Ron was preceded in death by his parents, Richard and Marion Main.
Per wishes, cremation has been accorded and there will be no services at this time. Memorials can be made to Traci Main, to be used towards final expenses, and may be mailed to Thomas Funeral Home, ATTN: Main Family, 501 North 18th Street, Centerville, Iowa 52544.
