Ronald D. Bates' Obituary
Ronald (Ronnie) D, Bates, age 60, of Centerville died Friday, January 22, 2010 at the VA Hospital in Des Moines, Iowa.
Ronnie was born January 9, 1950, the son of Litel and Doris (Conger) Bates in Centerville, Iowa. He graduated from Centerville High School, attended one year at the University of Iowa and then was drafted into the Army. Ronnie was a sergeant, squad leader and was awarded a Bronze Star and a Purple Heart in Vietnam during 1970-1971. After returning home he worked construction in Des Moines, Iowa. He married Julie Pardew May 19, 2000 in Centerville, Iowa. Ronnie loved Harley Davison's and his family.
Ronnie is survived by his wife, Julie of Centerville, Iowa; siblings, Judy (Larry) Hiatt of Centerville, Iowa, twin Don Bates of Centerville, Iowa Linda (Bill) Henderson of Centerville, Iowa and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; and brothers, Neil, Litel Jr. and Richard.
Funeral services with military rites will be held 2 PM, Wednesday, January 27, 2010 at Lange Funeral Home in Centerville with Pastor Eric Hoover officiating. Burial will follow in the Pleasant Hill Cemetery in Cincinnati, Iowa. A visitation will be held from 12-2 PM on Wednesday at Lange Funeral Home. A memorial has been established to the Des Moines Veteran's Hospital and may be left at or mailed to Lange Funeral Home, 1900 S. 18th St., Centerville, Iowa, 52544.
