Roma Young's Obituary
Roma Young, 82, of Seymour, passed away Sunday, November 5, 2017 at Mercy Medical Center in Des Moines. Roma was born to Henry & Mary (Hickerson) Pettit in Centerville, Iowa on May 21, 1935. After graduating Seymour High School in 1953, she continued her education, earning her teaching certificate. Roma married Kermit Young on August 5, 1957, in Centerville and to this union, three children were born. Roma was an elementary school teacher for several years, first in Jerome and later in Sewal, Corydon and Seymour. She had a life-long love of animals especially cats, dogs and birds. Roma enjoyed spending her time at home with family, but was also an active collector. Many family trips involved browsing auctions, antique shops, and flea markets in search of unique treasures. Roma is survived by her husband, Kermit; daughter, Kathy (Gary) Purvis; sons: Russell (Kathy) Young and Jason (Michael) Young; three grandchildren, three great grandchildren, one great great grandchild, and a host of nieces, nephews and cousins. She was preceded in death by her parents and her sister, Martha Johnson. Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. on Wednesday, November 8, 2017 at Thomas Funeral Home in Seymour. Interment will immediately follow at Southlawn Cemetery.
