Roger Perry's Obituary
Roger L. Perry, 89, of Warrensburg, Missouri passed away Wednesday, December 21, 2016 at Western Missouri Medical Center in Warrensburg. Roger was born to Harry Leo & Blanche (Fisher) Perry on February 19, 1927 in Centerville. He received his education from Centerville High School graduating in 1945. After high school, Roger voluntarily enlisted in the United States Army and served from April 1945 to November 1946. After being a civilian for a year and missing the rigors of military life, Roger re-joined the service in December 1947 enlisting in the United States Air Force where he would retire as a Chief Master Sergeant in the summer of 1974. During his 28 years in uniform, in addition to numerous stateside assignments, he served in Alaska, Iceland, Okinawa, the Philippines, Japan, Korea, Thailand and Vietnam. He was awarded the Bronze Star medal for meritorious service while serving in Vietnam. Roger was united in marriage to Mary McClaskey on November 3, 1955 in Centerville. To this union came three children; Steven, Ruth Ann and Rebecca. After his retirement from the United States Air Force, Roger worked for seven years for the State of Iowa. Roger enjoyed spending time fishing and picnicking at Rathbun Lake, taking care of his dogs, and playing games such as cribbage, chess and listening to blues music. Roger was a member of St Mary's Catholic Church, Centerville and for several years taught Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults (RCIA). Survivors include his wife, Mary of Warrensburg, Missouri, three children: Steven Perry (Carrie) of Warrensburg, Missouri, Ruth Ann Smith (Gary) of Junction City, Kansas, Rebecca Colson of Tyler, Texas, granddaughter, Melissa Smith of Rogers, Arkansas, grandson, Kyle Colson (Jessica) of San Antonio, Texas and two great grandchildren, Ava & Leo Colson of San Antonio. He was preceded in death by his parents. Funeral Mass will be 1:00 p.m., Friday, December 23, 2016 at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Centerville. Interment will immediately follow at Haines Cemetery. Visitation will be two hours prior to the service on Friday from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. Memorials may be given to the Alzheimer's Association, the American Speech-Language-Hearing Foundation (ASH Foundation) or the Veterans Assistance League - Warrensburg.
