Roger Eugene Leib's Obituary
Roger Eugene Leib, age 89 of Allerton, peacefully passed away on Wednesday, January 28, 2026 while a resident at West View Acres Care Center in Leon, Iowa.
Roger was born on December 25, 1936, near Guthrie Center, Iowa to Eugene and Helen (Lackey) Leib. He was the oldest of eleven siblings. The family moved to the Allerton area in March of 1960 after Roger had already left the parental home. He never married but lived and worked in Omaha, Nebraska most of his adult life. While in Omaha, he had multiple rental housing that he owned and worked at the Falstaff Brewery for many years.
Roger dedicated his career serving for the United States Navy, serving approximately 35 plus years for our country before being honorably discharged. He was a member of the See Bees. He spent a couple years in Vietnam where he operated heavy equipment to build Heli-pads for the helicopters to land on as well as other duties. Thru out his service, he achieved a rank as Chief Petty Officer, earning 4 Bronze Stars; a National Defense Service Medal; and an Expert Rifle Medal. He then remained in the Navy Reserves and finished as a Recruiter. Keeping busy was Roger's main hobby. He enjoyed wood working and helped make many model ships and aircraft out of wood and metal that were to be displayed and for the parades. He also kept busy on the farm with his dog by his side.
Roger was recently diagnosed with Peripheral Arterial Disease while a resident at the Care Center. His dream of going back home sometime never materialized.
Roger is survived by his siblings; Joyce Allard of Russell, Janice Creger of Phuket, Thailand, Ronnie (Darlene) Leib of Indianola, Rick (Carol) Leib of Ankeny, Joanne (Rod) Van Dyne of Corydon and Rodney Leib of Chariton; brother-in-law, Raymond Jackson of Ankeny; nine nieces; twelve nephews; along with numerous great-nieces and nephews and a host of other relatives and friends.
He is preceded in death by his father, Eugene Leib in 1992; mother, Helen Leib in 2015; brothers, Russell Leib in 1979 and Ray Leib in 2009; sisters, Judy Adair in 2002 and Jolene Jackson in 2022; nephews, Brandon Leib in 2002 and Jason Jackson in 2009; brothers-in-law, Bill Creger in 2003, Calvin Allard in 2009 and Shorty Adair in 2025.
Funeral services will be held on Monday, February 2, 2026 at 2:00PM at Thomas Funeral Home in Corydon. Visitation will be held on Monday, February 2, 2026 one-hour prior, starting at 1:00PM.
