Rodney Eugene Mikels' Obituary
Rodney Eugene Mikels, age 61, of Exline, passed away Monday, December 12, 2022 at MercyOne Medical Center in Centerville.
Rodney was born on April 1, 1961 in Centerville, Iowa, the son of Gerald Eugene and Mary (Montegna) Mikels. He graduated from Moravia High School with the Class of 1979. On December 5, 1980, he was united in marriage to Mary Deahl, and to this union, three children were born, Joe, Tony and Nick. The couple later separated.
Following high school graduation, Rodney began working at Union Carbide/Viskase/Bemis. He stopped working in 2006 after 26 years at Bemis. In his free time, he enjoyed hunting, fishing, gardening, trapping, and spending time with his beloved dog, Barney.
Left to honor Rodney's memory are his children, Joe (Michelea) Mikels of Centerville, Tony (Katey) Mikels of Council Bluffs, and Nick (David) Mikels of Ballwin, Missouri; his significant other of 11 years, Sarah Brummett of Exline; his step-daughter, Haley Brummett of Exline; five grandchildren, Emily Mikels, Alex Mikels, Dana Williams, Everly Mikels, and Abby Owens; two aunts, Carletta Stocker of Moravia, Marvelee Davis of Sarasota, Florida, and Louise Mikels of Unionville, MO; his sister, Karen (Chester) Engle of Centerville; as well as several extended family and friends.
Rodney was preceded in death by his parents, Gerald Eugene Mikels and Mary (Montegna) Mikels; a nephew, Craig Delbert Engle; as well as several extended family members and friends.
Per wishes, cremation has been accorded. A Celebration of Life service will be held at 10:00AM on Friday, December 16, 2022 at Thomas Funeral Home in Centerville, Iowa with Pastor Christy Ehrle officiating. Burial will follow the service at Oakland Cemetery in Centerville. Visitation will take place Thursday, December 15, 2022 with the family greeting friends from 5-7pm at the Thomas Funeral Home in Centerville.
