Robert 'Bob' Stanley Young's Obituary
Robert "Bob" Stanley Young, age 87 of Plano, Iowa passed away Saturday, October 31, 2020 at the Granger Nursing and Rehab Center in Granger, Iowa.
He was born on October 15, 1933 in Chariton, Iowa, the son of Steven Klaiss and Ruth (White) Young. Bob was raised in the Plano area on the family farm. He graduated from Centerville High School in 1952.
Bob entered the United States Army on December 7, 1954. He served his country faithfully and was honorably discharged on November 21, 1956.
He was united in marriage to Janice P. Wright on December 23, 1956 at the Drake Avenue Christian Church in Centerville. The couple were blessed with three children, Robin, Randy, and Russell.
Right after his marriage, Bob owned and operated Bobs Standard in Centerville. During this time, he also operated a Mister Softee ice cream truck and was active in Kamp-A-While campers.
Eventually, Bob and his family relocated to Perry, Iowa where he opened the doors to a drive-in restaurant franchise called Dog N Suds. He owned and operated this business for a few years.
Feeling a call to Ministry, Bob sold the drive-in and moved to Ankeny, Iowa where he enrolled at Faith Baptist Bible College. He took initial employment with Frank Lent Construction until he opened Paulines Pizza that he successfully operated for approximately four years.
When Bob graduated from Bible college, he relocated to the family farm in Plano, Iowa, a piece of real estate called home to five generations of the Young family. He then built Rathbun Lake View Chapel where he put his Bible degree to work by co-preaching with Marvin Martin for a number of years.
Bob loved the thrill of starting new businesses. From 1969 1979, he operated Bob Young Homebuilders. In 1980, he purchased Genes Transmissions in Centerville and renamed it SITCO (Southern Iowa Transmission Company). Bob eventually relocated the transmission business to Waseca, Minnesota in 1986 under the name Advanced Automatics. He continued his dedication to the business until he semi-retired in 1992 and moved back home to the family farm. At this period in his life, Bob stayed active with odd construction jobs and opened Brushy Creek Crafts where he built hand-made wooden caskets and other crafts for many friends and family members.
Following the loss of his wife Janice, Bob married Harriett Green of Plano, Iowa. They have been actively involved in their church, enjoyed their family, rural community, and many life-long friends.
Left to honor Bobs memory include his wife, Harriett Young of Plano, Iowa; three children, Robin (Pete) Young of Muscatine, Iowa, Randy (Joan) Young of Owatonna, Minnesota and Russell (Arlene) Young of Tea, South Dakota; four grandchildren, Jeremy (Casey) Young, Adam Young, Mikayla Young and Tiffany Young; two great grandchildren, Emily Young and Ryan Young; two siblings, Steve Young of Plano, Iowa and Sherry (Bob) Smith of Iowa.
