Robert Schlotter's Obituary
Robert Schlotter, 72, of Liberty, Missouri passed away unexpectedly on Sunday, January 3, 2021. Robert was born the son of Harold Schlotter and Eloise Harris Schlotter Fry on January 24, 1948 in Ottumwa, Iowa. After high school, Bob enlisted in the U.S. Marines to serve his country during the Vietnam War. He volunteered for two tours of duty and made his family proud. Into adulthood, Bob took a lot of pride in his military service and raised his children to hold high recognition of our military and those who serve. On December 29, 1972, he was united in marriage to Shirley Jean Brinegar, at St. John's United Methodist Church in Davenport, IA. Bob graduated with a bachelor's degree from Northeast Missouri State University, Kirksville, MO in 1974. Much of his life was spent working as a Construction Superintendent building homes. While he had been retired for years, he still took on a number of side jobs to supplement his car-buying/building addiction. Once for a school project we counted that dad had about 30 cars; at this point, he's probably owned closer to 60. He also enjoyed working with his hands and staying busy building decks and taking on small remodeling jobs. He was preceded in his death by his father Harold Schlotter, his mother Eloise Fry, his wife Shirley Brinegar Schlotter, and his grandson Noah Stockton. Bob is survived by his daughters, Dawn Comer and her husband, Pete, of Lee's Summit, MO, and Sara Nicholson and her husband, Travis, of Platte City, MO; his son, James Schlotter; and three dogs, Rozie, Stella, and Frankie, of Liberty, MO; and three grandsons, Jonathan, Michael, and Brentley Comer of Lee's Summit; as well as his sister, Charlene Graves of Bloomfield, IA,; and brothers, Richard Schlotter of Ottumwa, IA, and Rodney Schlotter of Bloomfield; as well as many nieces and nephews. Bob had a great love for his family and regularly visited his children and his siblings. He enjoyed his church and felt a strong connection to his community. His laughter and kind heart will be missed by many. Visitation will be held from 12-2:00 p.m. on Saturday, January 16, 2021 at Thomas Funeral Home in Centerville. A graveside service and military honors will immediately follow at Sunset View Cemetery in Moulton at 2:30 pm. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to your local American Legion or VFW. Bob was a member of the Bloomfield Legion Post 78 for 50 years. He also really enjoyed the Smithville VFW. Online condolences may be shared at www.thomasfh.com or facebook.com/thomasfuneralhome.
