Robert Roberts' Obituary
Robert Nelson Roberts, son of Silas and Amelia (Anderson) Roberts was born on June 3, 1926 in Wayne County near Sewal. Robert passed away on April 25, 2018 at the family farm where he had lived and worked for over 40 years. Robert was the youngest of six children, all of which lived most of their lives in Wayne and Decatur counties. Growing up on a farm, he learned the value of hard work at a young age. As a youngster, he would ride his bicycle to the store in Harvard to buy a "Nickle Pop" and to spend time with his friends. He attended a one-room School in Harvard through 8th grade and then left school to work full time on the farm. He was drafted by the US Army during the Korean War, serving stateside from 1950 through 1952. At age 91, Robert could still recall his rifle number. He met Eilene Edna McFarland of Baraboo, Wisconsin while stationed at Camp McCoy. They later married on March 22, 1957 and made their home in Harvard. After returning from the army, he started farming and a feed grinding business serving customers throughout much of Wayne County. He also worked full time for other farmers and hauled grain while carrying on his own farming operation. For many years Robert attended a small Nazarene Church in Corydon until it closed. He was clear on his decision to accept Christ as his Savior and the peaceful, quiet manner of his life bore evidence of God's transforming work. Robert found great pleasure in the simple things of life like watching birds at the feeder, petting his farm cats, and enjoying a quiet sunrise or sunset. But he really loved spending time with his family and many farming friends throughout the area. Survivors include his children: Karen (Dwaine) Relph of Groveland, Illinois, Calvin (Vetra) Roberts of Hopkins, Missouri. Grandchildren: Brian (Mary) Relph of Cicero, Illinois, Corey (Brandi) Hager of Maryville, MO, Andy (Heather) Relph of Morton, Illinois, Tyler (Amanda) Relph of Morton, Illinois, Leigha (Kyle) Sellner of Columbus, Mississippi and fifteen great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Eilene, his siblings, Lee Roberts, Glen Roberts, Goldie Roberts, Thelma Parmer, Velma Davison, and his granddaughter Alysia Roberts.
