Robert "Bob" Moore's Obituary
Robert "Bob" Moore, 68, of Centerville passed away Tuesday, December 27, 2016 at Mercy Medical Center in Centerville. Bob was born on July 26, 1948 in Centerville to George & Leota (Downing) Moore. He received his education from Centerville High School graduating in 1966. On August 4, 1968, Bob was united in marriage to Joyce Kauzlarich. To this union came four children, Dawn, Amy, Michael and Julie, they would later divorce. Bob was united in marriage again to Lynn Burns and they would divorce. Bob was a veteran of the United States Air Force. He was stationed all over the country while in the service, Nellis Air Force Base, Las Vegas, Nevada, Bolling Air Force Base, Washington, D.C., Port Austin Air Force Station, Port Austin, Michigan, Indian Mountain Air Force Base, Hughes, Alaska and Mt. Charleston Air Force Base, Las Vegas, Nevada. Some of Bob's accomplishments while serving in the Air Force included participating in the funeral for President Lyndon B. Johnson and in the inaugural parade for President Richard Nixon. After service, Bob joined the Air National Guard from 1975- 1978. Bob was employed by the City of Centerville in the Wastewater Department, where he remained for 21 years until retirement. He had also been employed by Centerville Greenhouses and St. Joseph's Mercy Hospital. After retiring from the city, Bob took a job delivering newspapers for the Daily Iowegian. Bob was a member of the American Legion Post 214, AMVETS and the Fraternal Order of Eagles. He was also a volunteer for the Veteran's Administration. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, mushroom hunting, traveling, Las Vegas, spending time with family and friends, but most of all teasing and tormenting anyone he could. Survivors include his four children and nine grandchildren, Dawn Zacek (Matt) and their children, Hailey and Hannah of North Liberty, Iowa, Amy Gonnerman (Kendal) and their children, Kolton and Karson of Cincinnati, Michael Moore (Michelle) and their children, Peyton, Cade and Kyla of Centerville, Julie Vanderlinden (Daniel) and their children, Olivia and Emersyn of Centerville. He is also survived by five siblings: Charles Moore of Las Vegas, Nevada, Shirley Parsons (Phil) of Ames, Marcella Hayes (Joe) of Moravia, Larry Moore (Rhonda) of Centerville, Gary Moore (Karen) of Ottumwa and many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Bob was preceded in death by his parents, two sisters; Deloris Fenton, Donna Campbell, niece, Linda Fenton Kauzlarich and a nephew, Larry Fenton. Celebration of Life Service will be 7:00 p.m., Tuesday, January 3, 2017 at Thomas Funeral Home in Centerville. Visitation will be 3 hours prior from 4-7 p.m. Interment will be held privately with family in Oakland Cemetery.
