Robert "Bob" Hopkins' Obituary
Robert 'Bob' William Hopkins, age 83, of Unionville, Iowa, died Wednesday, July 15, 2009 at Mercy Medical Center in Centerville. He was born the son of William M. and Zelma (Smith) Hopkins on February 6, 1926 near Unionville, Iowa. He was educated in the Black Hawk Rural School in Appanoose County.On October 17, 1953, Bob was united in marriage to Beverly Gale in Bloomfield, Iowa. He served his country during the Korean Conflict in the United States Army and received two Bronze Stars for his service. He worked for John Morrell Packing Plant in Ottumwa, Iowa for over 21 years before starting his work at the Moravia Elementary Schools as a Janitor for which he spent over 17 years. Bob was a member of the American Legion Post in Unionville, Iowa and also a member of the Unionville Baptist Church. He was award the Commonwealth Award for his volunteering to his community.He was preceded in death by: his parents; a brother, Stephen Hopkins and three other siblings in infancy.Bob is survived by: his wife, Beverly Hopkins of Unionville, Iowa; sons, William Hopkins and his wife, Cindy of Ottumwa, Iowa and Larry Hopkins and his wife, Sherry of Troy, Iowa; daughters, Deborah Cossolotto and her husband, Donnie of Centerville, Iowa, Betty Johnson and her husband, Dwight of Moravia, Iowa, Becky Endicott and her husband, Tim of Carrollton, Missouri and Laura Brown and her husband, Brian of Centerville, Iowa; brothers, John Hopkins of Ottumwa, Iowa and George Hopkins of Unionville, Iowa; sisters, Evelyn Scott of Bloomfield, Iowa, Mary Thomas of Unionville, Iowa, Miriam Hougland of Ottumwa, Iowa, Marlene Frich of Morgan Town, West Virginia, Patricia Hubbard of Arroyo Grande, California, Joyce Grosvenor of Moravia, Iowa, Lois Houser of Elkhart, Indiana and Linda Holm of Humeston, Iowa; ten grandchildren and two great grandchildren.Funeral services will be held on Monday, July 20, 2009 at 10 am at the Church of the Nazarene in Moravia, Iowa with Revs. Terry Chapman and Kathryn Franzenburg officiating. Burial with full military honors will follow at the Taylor Cemetery east of Unionville, Iowa. Visitation will be held on Sunday, July 19, 2009 from 2 pm till 8 pm at the Schmidt Family Funeral Home in Centerville, Iowa with the family present from 6 pm till 8 pm at the funeral home.Memorials can be made to either the Moravia Wrestling Club or Taylor Cemetery and can be left at or mailed to the funeral home.
