Robert Eugene Atwell's Obituary
Robert "Bob" Eugene Atwell, age 83, of Centerville, passed away peacefully at MercyOne Hospital in Centerville on December 4, 2025.
Bob was born on November 30, 1942 in Plano, Iowa to Ivan and Gertrude (Phelps) Atwell. Bob attended and graduated from Plano Schools. Shortly after high school Bob joined the Army to serve our country faithfully. He was honorably discharged in 1965. After his time in the service Bob came back home to Southern Iowa. Shortly after Bob came home from the Army, he met the love of his life Donna Marie Newell, and they married on February 12, 1966. To this union two beautiful children were born, Sonja and Jeffrey. He started working at Union Carbide Factory and worked there throughout many years and name changes before retiring from Viskase.
There was never a problem that couldn't be solved with Bob around, he was a man of many trades and a man who had a solution to anything and everything. He enjoyed spending lots of time in his work shop where he took pleasure in wood work. He also found joy in camping, hunting, fishing, and coin collecting. Bob loved spending time with his family, they were the world to him.
Left here on Earth to carry Bobs legacy are is his two children, Sonja (Randy) Strickler and Jeff (Angela) Atwell; many grandchildren, Tim Strickler, Randi Strickler, Sarah Strickler, Amber (Aaron) Collis, Patience Stout, Riley Butcher, Wyatt Butcher, and Christian Richardson; several great grandchildren, and a good deal of extended family and friends.
Bob was preceded in death by his parents, his beloved wife Donna; and siblings, William Atwell and Shirley Livingston.
Per Bob's wishes cremation has been accorded. Graveside services will take place on Friday, December 12, 2025 at 1:00PM, located at the Jerome Cemetery, Jerome, Iowa.
