Rilla Burgher's Obituary
Rilla L. Burgher, age 90 of Centerville, Iowa passed away Sunday, May 24, 2015 at the Centerville Nursing and Rehab Center.
She was born on August 31, 1924 in Decatur, Illinois, the daughter of William and Daisy (Dickerson) Heintze. At a young age, Rilla moved with her family to Moulton, Iowa. She graduated from Moulton High School. On February 1, 1942, Rilla was united in marriage to Russell Burgher.
Rilla lived for a brief period of time in Davenport, Iowa while Russell served his country in the military. Following Russell's honorable discharge from the service, the couple relocated to the Centerville area.
She was employed in various retail jobs in Centerville. Eventually, Rilla became manager of Rockwood's Clothing Store for Women (located on the northwest section of the Centerville Square). She managed Rockwood's for many years.
Throughout her lifetime, Rilla was a member of numerous organizations, including PEO, TTT, and the Appanoose Country Club. She loved golfing, bridge, knitting afghans, and cooking-especially her homemade chocolate-meringue pies. Rilla was a longtime member of the Drake Avenue Christian Church in Centerville.
Rilla is survived by her son, Rusty Burgher of Sachse, Texas; a niece, Peggy Oden of Centerville, Iowa; one nephew, Tim (Ellen) Wright of Wentzeville, Missouri; four great nieces and nephews, Dusty Hatfield of Centerville, Iowa, Blayne (Heather) Wright of Udell, Iowa, Zac Price of Centerville, Iowa and Tye Oden of Cedar Rapids, Iowa; four great, great nieces and nephews, Lane, Abby, Emmy, and Xander.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Russell Burgher; two brothers, William and Ernest Heintze; and a sister, Marie Wright.
Funeral services will be held at 11 AM, Friday, May 29, 2015 at Lange Funeral Home and Crematory in Centerville with Reverend Cindy Finn officiating. Interment will follow in the Coatsville Cemetery, Coatsville, Missouri. A visitation will be held on Friday at the funeral home from 10 AM until time of service. In lieu of flowers, a memorial has been established to New Focus Inc. and may be mailed to Lange Funeral Home and Crematory, 1900 S. 18th St., Centerville, Iowa, 52544.
