Rick Swarts' Obituary
Rickey "Rick" Charles Swarts, 66, of rural Moulton passed away Sunday, June 7, 2020 at his home following a lengthy battle with cancer. He was born to the late Fredrick "Raymond" and Geneva (Archer) Swarts on October 10, 1953 in Centerville. He attended school in Moulton and Udell. Rick was united in marriage to Tami Welch on October 15, 1983 at the Moulton Methodist Church. To this union came a daughter, Laura. He was a dedicated and loving husband, father, and grandfather. For many years, Rick worked for the Northfolk Southern Railroad. He also worked for Howard Fur and Wool, Newell-Rubbermaid, and Barkers/Hill Phoenix all in Centerville. Rick was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed hunting deer, turkey and other wildlife, along with fishing, hobby farming, gardening, and raising dogs. He, with his wife, also operated a mowing business while working full time. Upon his retirement, he assisted with transportation for the Amish community and enjoyed the opportunity to see the state of Iowa while doing so. He was a man of few words with a kind and gentle soul that will be greatly missed. He had a special place in his heart for each of his grandchildren and enjoyed time with family. Rick is survived by his wife, Tami; one daughter, Laura Swarts, of Moulton; three grandchildren: Theron Brummit, Freya Rudd, and Mira Rudd; and one sister: Lanna Pike, of Moline, Ill.; mother-in-law Janice Welch, of Chariton, and numerous nieces and nephews and other extended family members. He was preceded in death by his parents and three brothers: Danny Swarts, Mike Swarts and Allen Swartz; niece, Holly Swarts; and father-in-law Bill Welch. Funeral service will be 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, June 10, 2020 at Thomas Funeral Home in Centerville with Rev. Brian Hargrave officiating. Interment will immediately follow at Oakland Cemetery in Moulton. Visitation will be Tuesday, June 9, 2020 at Thomas Funeral Home in Centerville with the family present from 5-7 p.m. Memorials have been established toward the Oakland Cemetery and Moulton First Responders.
