Richard L. Strunk's Obituary
Richard L. Strunk, 84, of Centerville passed away Saturday, June 7, 2014 at Good Samaritan Society - Home Care & Hospice in Ottumwa. Richard was born to Henry & Amanda (Foster) Strunk in Unionville, Iowa on May 16, 1930. The family moved to Fremont, Iowa in 1935 where he received his education from Fremont High School graduating in 1948. On February 9, 1952 Richard was united in marriage to June Tandy at the Fremont Methodist Church. To this union was one child Terry. Richard was employed by McCurdy Seed Company in Fremont for 44 years before retiring in 1992. Richard was a veteran of the United States Army. He enlisted in 1954 and spent two years in Japan. In 1955 their son Terry was born. Richard saw him for the first time when he arrived home from Japan in 1956. Richard enjoyed hunting, fishing and welding in his spare time. He was a past member of the Fremont Methodist Church in Fremont and an AMVET member. Survivors include his wife of 62 years June Strunk, son, Terry Strunk, three grandchildren: Nicholas Strunk, Melissa Strunk, Amber Strunk, five great grandchildren, two sisters: Mary Edna Collins of Oskaloosa and Fern Lowe of Centerville. Also surviving are many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and five siblings: Ruth Taylor, Lucille Gates, Robert Strunk, Floyd Strunk and Daisy Morrow. Graveside service will be 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, June 11, 2014 at Cedar Township Cemetery in Fremont. Memorials may be given to the family and condolences may be shared at www.thomasfh.com.
