Richard L. Strickler's Obituary
Richard Allen Strickler Sr., age 66 of Centerville died Friday, January 10, 2014 at Fountain West Nursing Home, West Des Moines, Iowa. He was born April 24, 1947 in Centerville, Iowa, the son of Raymond and Velma (Herrold) Strickler. Richard received his education from Centerville Schools. After graduating from high school he entered the United States Army. Richard served his country faithfully, including a tour of duty in Vietnam. He married Judith Cowan July 17, 1970 in Plano, Iowa. Upon his discharge from the Army, Richard returned home and enrolled at Lincoln Technical, an institution of higher learning that teaches vocational programs. Richard worked for numerous business entities throughout his years of employment, including John Deere, Union Carbide and several local businesses as a mechanic. He was also self-employed as a carpenter. Richard loved the outdoors, especially the time he was able to spend fishing. He was also a car enthusiast. Richard was active for several years as a member of the VFW. He enjoyed spending time with family and friends. Moreover, family describes Richard as ""somebody everyone liked-he could talk to anyone."" He also loved spending time with his dog Sweet Pea who was very near and dear to him. He is survived by two children, Lori (Tim) Micetich of Unionville, Missouri and Richard ""Richy"" Strickler Jr. of Des Moines, Iowa; seven grandchildren, Ryan Bratz, Latisha Micetich, Nicole Micetich, Heather Micetich, Travis Micetich, Nathan Micetich and Noah Micetich; one great grandchild; a sister, Kathy (Casey) Jones of Mystic, Iowa; three brothers, Randy (Sonja) Strickler of Centerville, Iowa, Ronald (Peggy) Strickler of Minnesota and Russell (Marie) Strickler of Numa, Iowa; and many nieces and nephews. Richard was preceded in death by his parents; his wife Judy Strickler; and two brothers, Kenny and Eugene Strickler. Funeral services with military rites will be held at 1:30 PM Tuesday, January 14, 2014 at Lange Funeral Home and Crematory in Centerville with Pastor Walter King officiating. Burial will be held at a later date in the Iowa Veterans Cemetery near Van Meter, Iowa. A visitation will be held all day on Monday at Lange Funeral Home and Crematory, with the family greeting friends from 6-8 PM. Memorial contributions have been established to the family of Richard Strickler Sr. and may be given to Lange Funeral Home, 1900 S.
