Richard Southern's Obituary
Richard C. Southern, 96, of Moulton passed away on Monday, March 30, 2020 at Centerville Specialty Care. Richard was born to Loyd & Lelia (Walker) Southern on January 24, 1924 in West Grove, Iowa. He received his education from Moulton Schools. On June 12, 1949, Richard was united in marriage to Agnes Darlene Smith in Bloomfield, Iowa. To this union came two children: Shauna and Steven. Richard served his country in the United States Army during World War II, where he participated in the D-Day invasion on Omaha Beach. His many service awards include The French Legion Of Honor, awarded in 2019. After the war he returned home and would later become a Foreman for Tooele Army Depot in Tooele, Utah. Richard enjoyed: Fishing, bingo, and socializing with others - especially over a great piece of cherry pie. Survivors include his children: Shauna (Don) Shelby and Steven Southern; eight grandchildren, 12 great grandchildren, two great-great grandchildren; siblings: James Southern, Beatrice French and numerous extended family. He was preceded in death by his parents; siblings: Russell Southern, Roy Southern, Robert Southern, Bette Cary and Edith Singley. He was followed in death by his wife, Darlene, October 2020. A combined funeral service for Richard and Darlene will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, October 7, 2020 at Thomas Funeral Home in Moulton. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service from 10-11:00 a.m. Memorials may be made to the Moulton Christian Church or the Crossline Center and online condolences may be shared at www.thomasfh.com or facebook.com/thomasfuneralhome.
