Richard L. Sleeth's Obituary
Richard L. Sleeth, 82 of Udell, Iowa, died on Monday, July 11, 2011 at Mercy Medical Center in Centerville, Iowa. He was born on December 3rd, 1928 in Glenwood, Missouri, the son of Bhules and Velta (Smyser) Sleeth. He attended the school at Dean, Iowa.On August 17, 1947 Richard was united in marriage to Ilene Swarts at the Moulton Christian Church in Moulton, Iowa. Richard was drafted into the military service serving in the Korean Conflict, he was wounded thus he received a Purple Heart. He worked as a mechanic for the Ford Garage, Haydite Plant, and Union Carbide in Centerville, Iowa. He also worked at Mikels Farm Supply in Bloomfield, Iowa. Richard earned his pilot license in 1951 and loved flying. Richard and Ilene bought a farm east of Centerville in 1954 and he retired from farming in 1990.He was preceded in death by: his parents.Richard in survived by: his wife, Ilene Sleeth of Udell, Iowa; two daughters, Sheila Selix and her husband, Kenny of Unionville, Iowa and Rhonda Harris of Des Moines, Iowa; 6 grand children, Jacqueline Selix of West Des Moines, Iowa, Jennifer Selix of Des Moines, Jillian Kaster and her husband, Brydon of Moulton, Iowa, Jonathan Selix of Ottumwa, Iowa, Michelle Harris and Kendra Harris both of Des Moines, Iowa; as well as 4 great grand children; a sister, Shirley Cardani of Iowa City, Iowa.Funeral services will be at 1:00 pm on Thursday, July 14th, 2011 at the Schmidt Family Funeral Home in Centerville, Iowa with Rev. Carl Heien officiating. Burial will follow at the Mt. Ararat Cemetery east of Centerville. Visitation will be held on Wednesday, July 13th, 2011 from 2 pm until 8 pm at the funeral home with the family present from 6 pm to 8 pm.A Memorial can be made to the Mt.
