Richard 'Dick' Sharp's Obituary
Richard 'Dick' Sharp, age 84 of Centerville, passed away Thursday, December 15, 2016 at Mercy Medical Center in Centerville.
Dick was born on April 7, 1932 in Corydon, Iowa, the son of Walter and Mildred (Ferren) Sharp. He earned his master's degree at Northeast Missouri State University . He was united in marriage to Doris Quinn on August 22, 1953 in Salisbury, Missouri. From this union, three children were born, Rick, Greg and Jodi.
Dick was the Dean at Indian Hills Community College for over 30 years, until his retirement. During retirement, he served on the IHCC board for many years. He also enjoyed golfing and fishing.
Dick believed that family always came first. He was surrounded by his family on his passing. He was fiercely protective of his family, and loved them all very dearly. Dick and Doris were always a team, and the life of the party. His sense of humor never disappeared, even when his condition grew dire. His sense of humor will be sorely missed, but will continue to fill the family with laughter for their remaining years.
He is survived by his wife, Doris Sharp of Centerville; his children, Rick (Linda) Sharp, Greg (Mary) Sharp, and Jodi (Tim) Higbee; six grandchildren and thirteen great grandchildren.
Dick was preceded in death by his parents, Walter and Mildred Sharp.
Per his wishes, he will be cremated. A Celebration of Life service will be held in February. Memorials have been established to Indian Hills Community College in Centerville, and may be mailed to Lange Funeral Home and Crematory, 1900 South 18th St. Centerville, Iowa 52544.
