I'd like Rich's family to know that in addition to his legendary wit, which is noted in so many of his friends' messages, Rich also had a loyal streak a mile wide. Though logical and analytical in his professional life, with his friends he was empathetic to a fault. He may have presented a witty, sarcastic face to the world at times, but within I know he was tremendously sensitive. Despite his professional contact with some of life's less-than-savory elements, I knew him to be willing to believe the best of people. He was fascinated by people -- their quirks and peculiarities. He loved the absurd. he loved his dog, Scout. He loved his niece. He loved what he loved. He expressed himself beautifully and brutally. He was tenacious and never more so than when he was being kind. Relentlessly kind and empathetic. Odd, sweet and dear. What a tremendous loss, and my heart truly bleeds for you, his dear family.
