Richard "Dick" Dean Myers Obituary's Obituary
Richard (Dick) Dean Myers was born in Corydon, Iowa on May 25, 1928 and passed away at home on April 10, 2014 at the age of 85. Dick was preceded in death by his parents, Fred and Averil Myers. Dick and his sisters, Joan and Joyce, were raised on a farm in the Cambria area. He graduated from Cambria High School in 1945. After high school, Dick moved to Des Moines and worked at Southern Lumber and Armstrong Tire. He served in the army from 1951 to 1953 and was a lifelong member of the Humeston and Corydon American Legions, serving at many military funerals. Dick married his wife Elva Jean Williamson in 1950 and to this union two children were born, Susan and Steve. Dick and Jean farmed near Cambria for fifty-three years before retiring and moving to Corydon. They spent several winters in Mesa, Arizona where Dick enjoyed playing slow pitch softball, bocce ball and other activities. He was a member of the Corydon Golf Club and enjoyed many rounds of golf there with family and friends. He also loved to fish and read a good book. Dick was very proud of his grandchildren and enjoyed watching their activities. Dick is survived by his wife of 64 years, Jean; children Susan Alley and Steve (Dawn) Myers; grandchildren Cole Alley, Logan, Hannah, and Emma Myers; sisters Joan (Hal) Sanders and Joyce (Don) Petty and many nieces and nephews. Memorials may be made to the Corydon Golf Course or the LeCompte Memorial Library.
