Richard McClure's Obituary
View Video Tribute Richard Lee 'Dick' McClure, 79, of Cincinnati passed away Friday, March 22, 2013 at Mercy Medical Center in Des Moines after a brief illness. Dick was born August 11, 1933 in Unionville, Missouri the son of Lee and Sylvia (Blythe) McClure. On May 10, 1952, Dick married Margaret Logston in Bettendorf, Iowa. Together they lived most of their life in Cincinnati raising their five children; Rich, Rick, Sherri, Sandra and Russ. Margaret preceded him in death on June 6, 2000. Dick quit school to begin working in the coal mine with his father. After marriage Dick worked in farming and later on the railroad in Rock Island. After buying his first truck he hauled rock and worked at gas stations in Centerville. He then hauled hay until his retirement in the early 90's, and began raising cattle for the next 15 years. Throughout his life he enjoyed building and driving his various race cars. His love of racing extended in demolition derbys, making racing a family affair. Many hours were spent with the family in the garage on the square. When not driving or helping build race cars he enjoyed going to the races as well as watching races on television. On September 16, 2005 Dick married Alice Glascock in Unionville, Missouri. They continued living in Cincinnati as they cared for their cattle, their garden, their home and each other. Dick and Alice were passionate about improving the town of Cincinnati and devoted a lot of time improving the cemetery. Many hours were spent on the front porch visiting with family, friends and neighbors. Dick enjoyed family get-togethers with Bobbie, Joyce and Carole's families. Dick was preceded in death by his parents, his first wife, Margaret and a grandson Jared Robinson. He is survived by his wife Alice, Rich (Mary) McClure, Rick McClure, Sherri Oden and Gary of Cincinnati, Sandra (Larry) Robinson of Kansas City, Missouri, Russ (Lisa) McClure of Moravia, Jerry (Cheryl) Bennett of Blue Grass, Iowa, Carole (Larry) Brown of Seymour, Jim Bennett of Anamosa, Roger (Lynn) Bennett of Stockton, Iowa , Joyce (Donnie) Davis of Seymour, Billie (Pat) Means of Osceola, Barb (Tim) Pasa of Centerville, 10 grandchildren, 15 great grandchildren, 19 step grandchildren, 20 step great grandchildren and a host of other relatives and friends. Funeral service will be 1:30 p.m., Tuesday, March 26, 2013 at Thomas Funeral Home with Rev. Brian Hargrave officiating. Interment will be in Pleasant Hill Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m., Monday, March 25, 2013 at Thomas Funeral Home.
