Richard Bartlett's Obituary
RICHARD C. BARTLETT Richard Bartlett passed away at the Wayne County Hospital Tuesday, May 25, 2010 at the age of 87 years, 9 months, and 9 days. He was born August 16, 1922 near Genoa, Iowa. He was the son of Roy C. and Mildred (Barrickman) Bartlett. He lived his entire life in or near Seymour, Iowa. He graduated from Seymour High School in 1940. Richard's father was killed in a car accident the day after his high school graduation. Richard assumed the responsibilities as head of the household for his mother and younger brother James. Richard has a daughter, Peggy Ratigan and a son Larry Kim Bartlett. He married Dickie Turpen in 1962. Richard and Dickie would have been married 48 years on July 29th. Richard and Dickie operated Bartlett's Market for 15 years. He farmed his entire life, retiring in 1997 after 57 years. Richard and Dickie wintered in Texas and Arizona for 22 years. He was a 50-year member of Odd Fellow Lodge, a past member of the Lions Club and a member of the Seymour Methodist Church. He served as president of the Seymour Community Club and was an original stockholder in the Seymour Care Center. He and Dickie enjoyed doing everything together. They enjoyed tractor pulls, camping at the Unionville, Missouri Fair and Saturday nights at the Rathbun Country Music Theatre. Richard even loved to shop with Dickie and he always endeared himself to the shopkeepers. He was loved by many and he made friends easily and enjoyed himself everywhere he went. Richard was looking forward to his 70th class reunion. He maintained many friendships and close relationships with his classmates. Richard was preceded in death by his father Roy Bartlett, mother Mildred Bartlett and brother James Bartlett. He was also preceded in death by a niece Jackie Gouveia and nephew Jack Turpen. Both made their home with Richard and Dickie. Richard is survived by wife, Dickie, daughter Peggy (Jerry) Ratigan, a son Larry Kim (Debbie) Bartlett, nieces Teresa Gouveia and Sharon Sebolt Vogle. They also made their home with Richard and Dickie. Richard is also survived by three granddaughters: Jenny and husband John Pauley, Becky Bartlett and Emily Bartlett. He will also be sadly missed by sisters-in-law Grace McClain, Ann Clubb, Ethelyn McClain and Shelia McClain---each one was his favorite and brothers-in-law Jack McClain and Charles McClain.
