Raymond Junior Stites' Obituary
Raymond Junior Stites, 91, of Charles City and formerly of Moulton passed away Sunday, September 17, 2017 at the Iowa Veterans Home in Marshalltown. Junior was born on June 19, 1926 to Raymond & Gail (Foster) Stites in Moulton, Iowa. He received his education from Moulton Schools. Junior was a veteran of the United States Marine Corps, serving during World War II. On January 24, 1945, Junior was united in marriage to Dora Maxine Stockton and they had three children; they would later divorce. He would later marry again to Wilma Mae Smith in June of 1970. Junior started his working career as a farmer. He would later change occupations and become a salesman. Junior enjoyed being outdoors and especially enjoyed hunting, fishing and camping. Later in life, Junior loved watching NASCAR and reading books. Survivors include his son, Mike Stites (Carol) of Chariton, seven grandchildren: Melissa Stites Nine of Marshalltown, Rodney Stites (Kristal) of Chariton, Erin McCreary (Scott) of Jackson, MO., Heather Webb (Andrew) of Anna, IL., Shelly Dickerson (Jim) of Corydon, Delsey Hinners (Tony) of Dayton, IA., Loren Curtis of Promise City, 15 great grandchildren, two great great grandchildren and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. He was preceded in death by his daughters: Jolene Curtis, Vicki Stites Donath, first wife, Maxine Stites, second wife, Wilma Stites, parents, three sisters; Mabel Corder, Vivian Manning, Jennie Lee Grimm, half brother, Ronald Stites and half sister, Norma Daughtrey. Funeral service will be 10:00 a.m., Wednesday, September 20, 2017 at Thomas Funeral Home in Centerville. Interment will immediately follow in Hilltown Cemetery. Visitation will be Tuesday, September 19, 2017 at Thomas Funeral Home with the family present form 6-8 p.m. Memorials may be given to Disabled American Veterans (D.A.V.) and condolences may be shared at www.thomasfh.com.
