Raymond Rick's Obituary
Raymond Francis Rick, 72, passed away peacefully at his home on June 20, 2014 after a long courageous battle with cancer. Raymond was born in Centerville on February 2, 1942 to Raymond V. Sr & Louise (Stepnowski) Rick. He attended Mystic Community Schools and graduated from Centerville High School with the class of 1960. Raymond furthered his education at Centerville Community College (now Indian Hills Community College). He was a member of Phi Beta Lambda. Raymond served his country in the United States Army from 1962-1966. He then joined the United States Army Reserves from 1966-1974. He was united in marriage on April 27, 1974 to Linda Atkinson at St. Francis Catholic Church with Fr. Albert Fey officiating. The two celebrated 40 years this April. Raymond worked as a circulation manager for the Daily Iowegian, store clerk at Gambles and later became a machine operator at Viskase before his retirement in 2001. Raymond was an outdoor person. He loved hunting, fishing, flowers and growing vegetables in his garden. His granddaughter Brianna Lee was Raymond's pride and joy. Raymond was a Stuart Maquire Mason and a Knapp Shoe Agent throughout his life as well. Raymond is survived by his wife Linda of Centerville, daughter, Renee of Waukee, granddaughter, Brianna of Waukee, three sisters; Annette Rick of Phoenix AZ, Loretta Rick of Alexandria, VA and Christine Gienski (Lonnie) of Hanover, PA, and many nieces, nephews and cousins. He was preceded in death by his maternal and paternal grandparents, parent's aunts and uncles. Funeral Mass will be 10:30 a.m., Saturday, June 28, 2014 at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Centerville with Fr. Bill Hubmann officiating. Interment will be in Highland Cemetery. Visitation will be from 6-8 p.m., Friday, June 27, 2014 at Thomas Funeral Home in Centerville. A Vigil service will take place at 7:00 p.m. led by Fr. Bill Hubmann. Memorials may be given to St. Mary's Catholic Church or HCI-Hospice of Central Iowa. Condolences may be shared at www.thomasfh.com.
