Raymond Berner's Obituary
Raymond Henry Berner, 89, of Seymour passed away on Thursday, July 9, 2020 at Wayne County Hospital in Corydon. Raymond was born on February 21, 1931 to Henry and Fern (Stutt) Berner in Otoe County, Nebraska. He attended elementary school in Nebraska until the family moved to Seymour in 1943. He graduated from Seymour High School in 1949 and served in the United States Navy from 1951 to 1954. Raymond was united in marriage to Mary Dolores Knowles in 1953 and to this union, four children were born: Kim, Pam, Paul and John. Dolores passed away in 1967. He was united in marriage in 1969 to Minnie Lund, and also added two daughters, Patty and Debbie to the family. Raymond farmed west of Seymour for more than 55 years and was a part-time mail carrier for the Seymour post office. He drove Amish neighbors for many years after retiring from farming and developed many good friendships with all in the community. He served on the Seymour School board, the Wayne County FSA for 18 years, was a member of the American Legion, Farm Bureau and a longtime member of First Lutheran Church in Centerville and also enjoyed the Seymour Community Center. He enjoyed boating with his family at Rathbun Lake and Lake Thunderhead and Christmas and Easter were always special family times. Raymond is survived by his children: Kim (Jan) Berner of Albia, Pam (Brad) Young of Centerville, Paul (Cathy) Berner of Tyler, Texas, John (Robyn) Berner of Beebe, Arkansas, Patty (David) Mason of Corydon, and Debbie (Craig) Sebolt of Cincinnati; grandchildren: Beth (Eric) Maddy, Jill (Gabe) Parker, Emily Berner, Allison (Colin) Conn, Katie Berner, James (Amy) Young, Seth Berner, Courtney Berner, Tammy Mason, Sheri (Kyle) Rogier, Deanna (Tyson) Rominger, Gwynn (Alex) Olson; great grandchildren: Meredith, Bridget, and Greg Maddy, Bradley, Brayden, Breeanna, and Brooklyn Young, Derek and Ryan Rominger, Gianna and Luca Olson and Aiden, Jaxon, Hudson, and Peyton Conn. Also surviving are brothers: Roland (Shirley) Berner of Tucson, Arizona, Fred (Linda) Berner of Lakewood, Colorado, James (Virginia) Berner of Waukee, Iowa and brother-in-law Sam (Kelly) Knowles of Goodyear, Arizona. Preceding him in death were both wives and his parents. Visitation will be held at the Thomas Funeral Home in Seymour from 3-7:00 p.m. on Sunday, July 12, 2020 with the family present 5-7:00 p.m. Funeral services will be held at Thomas Funeral Home in Seymour on Monday, July 13, 2020 at 10:30 a.m. with burial immediately following at Southlawn Cemetery in Seymour.
