Raul Cortez Obituary's Obituary
Raul Cortez, 54 of Ottumwa went home to be with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on October 24, 2009 after an extended illness. Raul was born to Raul and Eustacia Cortez on December 4, 1954 in Acapulco, Mexico. He was a faithful member of Church of the Nazarene Arca de Salvacion in Ottumwa. Before immigrating to the United States in 1987, Mr. Cortez studied architecture at the Guerrero Technological Institute and the Polytechnical Institute of Mexico City. He played minor league professional soccer for UNAM Pumas and Toluca and worked as a Taxi driver as well. After moving to the United States, Raul worked in landscaping and industrial labor. He is also a former employee of Cargill. Raul is survived by his former wife, Irma Trujillo, four children, Gisela of Ottumwa, Raul of Acapulco, Mexico, Raul and Wendy of Marshall, Missouri, grandson, Raul de Jesus of Acapulco, Mexico and six siblings, Eriselda, Roman, Francisco, Rosa, Irma and Juan. Funeral service will be 6:30 p.m., Sunday, November 1, 2009 at Church of the Nazarene Arca de Salvacion - 701 Ellis Ave - Ottumwa, Iowa with Rev. Shane Wilson officiating. Visitation will be from 5-6:30p.m. on Sunday. Memorials may be given to the family which may be left at or mailed to Church of the Nazarene - 701 Ellis Ave.- Ottumwa, Iowa 52501.
