Randy Allen Sloan's Obituary
Randy Allen Sloan, 69, of Corydon, Iowa, was born June 2, 1954 in Corydon to Mardeth Dean Sloan and Bernadine Carlson Sloan. He joined older brothers Donald Neal and Richard (Spick) Bud. He lived much of his life in the Millerton area, then Russell and ended his life in Corydon on February 1, 2024 at the Wayne County Hospital in Hospice care. He graduated from Wayne Community High School in 1972. At age 19, he married Shirley Long and four children followed, Tara, Cade, LeeAnn and Ray. They divorced in the Farm crisis of 1983.
Randy started farming after high school, then became a concrete laborer in the Union Local 177 where he worked until he proudly retired at age 55. He later drove a truck part-time for several different companies. When he was laid off in the winters from the Union, he worked off and on for Carol and Lois Sears moving buildings, occasionally James Sears, and helped Terry and Mary Lou Mitchell when needed. He was also the Union Hotshots 4H leader for a few years alongside Steve Fortune. He loved participating in the Jesse James Day reenactments in Corydon each summer.
He was married to Marianne Blake Norris in 1991 and had many memories with her and her children, Robert and Candi Davis and Matt Norris. He married Pam Canady in 1998 and this union lasted 20 years until her death in 2017. Randy and Pam spent many years camping and boating with family at Rathbun Lake, including Pam's sons Brad and Chad Arnold. They traveled to South Padre, Texas and Lady Lake, Florida many, many years during the winter.
Randy spent a lot of time following his grandkids to their activities and loved to take them camping. Their "midnight cruises" on Lake Rathbun were pretty special. On many occasions, family accompanied Randy and Pam on their trips to Texas and Florida.
Randy is survived by his children, Tara (Carl) Spidle, Leon, Cade (DeeDee Chance) Sloan, Albia, LeeAnn (Steve) Millizer, Chariton, and Ray Sloan, Allerton; stepson Chad Arnold, and daughter-in-law Holly Arnold, Corydon. His grandchildren, Beau (Randa) Smith, Colt Spidle, Cauy (Katy) Spidle, Tanner Ballard, Caden Sloan, Carlie Sloan, Heidi Ballard, Morgan Arnold, Paige Ballard, Cooper Arnold, Susie Sloan, great grandchildren, Sayven and Crue Spidle, and brother Neal (Joyce) Sloan of Des Moines. He had many nieces, nephews, cousins and very special friends whom he was close to throughout his life.
He was preceded in death by his parents, wife Pam, stepson Brad Arnold and brother Richard (Spick) Sloan.
