Randy Richardson's Obituary
Randy Royce Richardson, 69, of Corydon, Iowa, passed away at his home on May 11, 2020. Randy was born to John William and Wanetta Fern (Everman) Richardson on Dec. 18, 1950, in Corydon. He graduated from Wayne Community High School in 1969. Randy enlisted in the United States Air Force on Dec. 18, 1969, serving 24 years, three months and 13 days. He served in Taiwan, Guam, Germany, Florida and Ohio. He was honorably discharged and retired on April 1, 1994. He met and married Valerie George in Florida and they were married on June 2, 1979. To this union in 1989 a son was born in Ohio, John William III. Randy attended several military NCO leadership courses and also attended several different colleges while in the military, working on a business management degree. While stationed in Germany he learned how to shoot trap and skeet. The shooting bug caught him and he spent several years traveling around Germany attending local shoots. He was an avid trap and skeet shooter, winning many trophies. Randy continued to enjoy shooting when he returned to the states and he passed this love on to his son. He loved country music, especially the old country. At an early age he taught himself how to play the guitar and never stopped playing. He loved to sit and pick and grin with his friends and his "boys." While serving in Germany Randy was made an honorary member of the band Kenny's Rebels, something he was quite proud of. Randy was a life member of the American Legion and was currently serving as Commander of the Corydon Russell E. Marshall Post #68. Since retiring he worked many jobs: farming, machinist at Johnson Machine Works, maintenance at Voltmaster Battery and for 10 years a housing inspector for the State of Iowa. His one dream when he retired was to purchase and raise buffalo on their farm, which he did from 1994-2007. Although it was hard work he took pride in increasing the herd and spent a lot of time in the field watching the herd. He loved working as a family on the farm. Randy was especially proud of his son and his high school athletic career. He was a passionate follower of all sports John participated in.
