Randall Everett Schultz's Obituary
Randall "Randy" Everett Schultz, age 69, of Centerville, passed away Sunday, October 20, 2024 at the University of Iowa Hospital in Iowa City.
Randy was born on January 28, 1955 in Mason City, Iowa, the son of Robert and Jacqueline (Piper) Schultz. While in high school and college, he was an avid athlete. He graduated from Mason City High School with the Class of 1973 and furthered his education, receiving his Associates of Arts Degree in Retail Management from NIACC. While at NIACC, he was a member of the baseball team where he received All Region honors in 1975.
On June 25, 1977, Randy was united in marriage to Laurie Tubbs, and to this union, two children were born, Heather and Derek.Randy worked in grocery for over 50 years. Born and raised in Mason City, he began his career at Easters Super Value, leaving Mason City in 1978. Following his grocery profession, he settled in Centerville in 1993.
In his earlier years, Randy loved playing on the men's slow-pitch softball league, hosting Super Bowl parties, Monday Night Football, playing golf, and coaching Derek in little league. When his kids grew up and moved away, Randy enjoyed working in his yard, watching the Iowa Hawkeyes, being a member of the Eagles and feeding the birds with his grandchildren. He also thoroughly enjoyed relaxing in his driveway, soaking up the sun, enjoying a cocktail or two and listening to music around the fire pot with his wife, children, grandchildren and friends.
In 2022, Randy was inducted into the 1972 Mason City Hall of Fame for baseball, spring and fall. Randy was a person that had an infectious laugh, always happy and fun, and never knew a stranger.
Left to honor Randy's memory are the love of his life of 52 years, his wife, Laurie Schultz; his children, Heather (Tim) Goodrich and Derek (Carlyn) Schultz; his siblings, Raelene Evans, Roxanne (Mike) Thompson, and Rory Schultz (Jan); his grandchildren, Hannah Goodrich, Hudson Schultz, William Schultz and Baker Schultz; as well as numerous family and friends.
Randy was preceded in death by his parents, Robert and Jacqueline Schultz; his in-laws, Charles and Mary Lou Tubbs; and his brother, Rickey Schultz.
Per wishes, cremation has been accorded and a Celebration of Life service will be held at a later date.
