Ramona Niday's Obituary
Ramona Florence (Hill) Niday was born June 21, 1935 in High Point, Iowa, to Dealia (Leahy) and Ray Hill and was the youngest of their 6 children. She passed away January 2nd, at Wayne County Hospital surrounded by her children. Ramona grew up in Garden Grove and graduated from Garden Grove High School in 1953. She was very proud of her high school days and loved reminding people she was selected as an honorable mention all-state basketball guard. In her later years, she loved knowing and hearing about the accomplishments of her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She married Marion (Babe) Niday on October 4, 1955. After a short stay in Kansas, they settled in Allerton, Iowa where they enjoyed their kids and grandkids. Babe and Ramona lived in the same home for 54 years. Ramona is the mother of 5 children: Deena, Mike, Krista, David, and Lisa. She was proud to state (and often reminded Melanie) that at the age of 39 she became a grandmother and has 11 grandchildren - Melanie, Josh, Heather, Tonya, Tessa, Susan, Bret, Peter, Joey, Casie, and Jenna, and 15 great grandchildren. Ramona loved any time that she could spend with her family, whether it was playing spoons or croquet, going to ball games, or just sitting and having a nice visit with friends and extended family members. Each one of her kids and grandchildren enjoyed and will cherish the stories she shared about her childhood adventures such as riding her pony Ol' Jack, going to the movies, working at the bakery, and the many car trips with family friend Harry and her siblings. Ramona's faith was very important to her. In her final days, it brought her great comfort to have a blessing, a prayer, and her final rites administered to her by Father Samuel. Her family will most miss her infectious laugh, her candidness, her bright red lipstick, her birthday phone calls, and her willingness to be teased. Being competitive is probably one of the most dominant traits she passed onto her family - it didn't matter who you were or what your age was - Ramona was in it to win it. Ramona is survived by her children: Deena Edelstein (Marty Scarpino), Mike Niday, Krista Hickie (Pat Ogden), David Niday (Lesa), and Lisa Niday (Toni Sprouse), grandchildren: Melanie Halferty (John), Josh Hickie, Heather Fortune (Greg), Tonya Baker, Tessa Keller (Cody), Susan Moore (Tyler), Bret Niday (Jessie Jennings), Peter Edelstein (Brook), Joey Edelstein (Lacey), Casie Niday, and Jenna Niday, fifteen great grandchildren, sisters: Glendoris Moreland, Audrey Ruiz, and Ruby Smith, brother-in-law, Marlin Niday (Leila) along with many nieces, nephews, and cousins. She was preceded in death by her husband, Babe, her parents, brothers: Junior Hill (Naomi), Paul "Scrub" Hill (Dorothy) and Rex Hill, brother-in-law, Vernon Niday (Ethel), Robert Smith, sisters-in-law: Doris Rahricht (Buck), Darlene McCarty (Max), Bonnie Thomas (Lloyd) and Donna Niday.
