Ralph D. Schmell's Obituary
Ralph Schmell, age 61 of Centerville died Wednesday evening, July 20, 2005 at the Corydon Hospital, Corydon, Iowa.
He was born August 1, 1943 at Corydon, Iowa the son of Harry and Lena (Gibbs) Schmell. He graduated from Geneseo High School in 1963. During high school he played football for Bettendorf High School and was All-State. He loved to hunt especially Turkey's, loved watching horsepulling and old tractors. He was a stock car driver and owner in the 1960's. He lived many years in the Quad City area spending 13 in Blue Grass where he and Shirley made their home before moving to Centerville. He was a veteran of the Vietnam War.
He is survived by his wife Shirley of Centerville, five children, Shelley Belloma and her husband Jeff of Centerville, Scott Rinehart and his wife Amy of Moravia, Tammi Daily of Davenport, Iowa, Craig Schmell and his wife Michelle of Centerville, Cody Schmell of Centerville; 11 grandchildren; 8 brothers and sisters Roland Schmell and Lorretta Sandman of Davenport, Everett Schmell and his wife Dee of Blue Grass, Iowa, Roy Schmell and his wife Kim of Geneseo, IL, Jim Schmell and his wife Vickie of Rathbun, Iowa, Mary Anna Picolet and her husband Pick of Glenwood, MO, Jane Mullins of Moravia and Fran Paul and her husband Tony of Mystic. many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by a son Russell Dennis Schmell, his parent and a brother Gerald Schmell.
Funeral services will be held at 2 PM Saturday July 23, 2005 at the Thomas Lange Funeral Home, Centerville with Pastor Kris Watlett officiating. Friends may call all day Friday with the family present from 6-8 PM at the funeral home. Burial will be in the Oakland Cemetery, Centerville with military rites.
