Ralph Edward Long, age 48, of Plano, Iowa, died Saturday, July 2, 2005, at his home in Plano, Iowa. He was born the son of the late Arlo Ivan Long and the late Carmen (Wales) Long on December 1, 1956 in Centerville, Iowa. He graduated from Seymour High School in Seymour, Iowa in 1975. Ralph was employed as a welder at Shivvers Manufacturing in Corydon, Iowa. He was previously employed at Deflecta-Shield in Corydon, Iowa until its closure.He was preceded in death by: his parents; maternal grandparents, Roland and Blanche Wales; paternal grandparents, Benjamin and Minnie Long; three great nieces, Amber Murphy, Kerrie and Kasey Kirby; brothers-in-law, Brian Baker, John Kirby, and Davis R. Opperman.Ralph is survived by: his brother, Ronald Long, and his wife, Elizabeth, of Promise City, Iowa; sisters Beverly Kirby of Centerville, Iowa; Betty Baker of Allerton, Iowa; Marjorie Bedford and her husband, Vernon, of Cantril, Iowa; and Carolyn Opperman of Cincinnati, Iowa; two aunts; three uncles; and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.Memorial services will be held on Wednesday, July, 13, 2005 at 1:00 P.M. at the Schmidt Family Funeral Home in Centerville, Iowa with Rev. Sharon Squires officiating. Burial of the cremains will be in the Highland Cemetery in Mystic, Iowa.
