Ralph Carleous DeVore's Obituary
Ralph Carleous DeVore, 88, passed away on August 13, 2017 at a care facility in Ottumwa. He was the son of Lewis Allen and Leolla Genevieve (Lowe) DeVore. He was born on May 1, 1929 on a farm a few miles west of Centerville, Iowa on Highway 2. A few years later the family moved to a home in Centerville where his father managed a service station. He was known as Carleous by family and friends. He attended Lincoln grade school, Central, Junior High and High School in Centerville and attended the University of Iowa obtaining a degree in electrical engineering which he pursued in employment in Torrence, California and later in Ogalala, Nebraska. During the Korean War, Carleous enlisted in the United States Air Force, serving in the 6555th Guided Missile Squadron at Patrick Air Force Base, Florida. He received an honorable discharge on September 2, 1952. Carleous was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Centerville and the Masonic Lodge #588 in Mystic. Left to morn his passing are his son, Paul Allen DeVore; daughter, Jennifer Ann Krieger; sisters: Janice Ella Gatrel and Eleanor Linda Teater; brother, Howard Lewis DeVore and their extended families. Carleous was preceded in death by his parents; son, Michael; wife, Eloise Darlene and her parents, Glenn and Dorothy (Sleath) Bailey. Per Carleous' request, cremation has been accorded. He will be inurned at the Philadelphia Cemetery near Brazil, Iowa with his wife and near his parents with Pastor Shurmaine McAlpine officiating. Graveside service and military honors will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, September 9, 2017. Family and friends are welcome to attend.
