Phyllis Jordan Thomas' Obituary
Phyllis Jordan Thomas, age 90, of Centerville, passed away Sunday, October 12, 2025 at Putnam County Care Center in Unionville, Missouri.
Phyllis was born on August 30, 1935 in Centerville, Iowa, the daughter of Charles Albert Gardner and Nadine (Jordan) Gardner. She graduated from Centerville High School with the Class of 1954. She was united in marriage to Gary Richard Thomas, and to this union, four children were born, Jeff, John, Jim and Jennifer.
Phyllis was a strong woman, taking pride in taking care of her family and her home. She also took care of her extended family, often being called "Mama Bear". In her free time, Phyllis enjoyed the farm, reading-especially the bible, and most importantly, spending time with her family.
Left to cherish Phyllis' memory are her husband of over 70 years, Gary Thomas; her children, Jeff (Peggy) Thomas, John (Teresa) Thomas, Jim (Robin) Thomas, and Jennifer (Jeff) Wakefield; eight grandchildren, Grant, Adam, Alexander, Daniel, Paul, Molly, Andrew, and Lauryn; her brother, Leroy "Butch" (Janice) Gardner; her sister, Rosalee Inman; as well as several extended family members.
Phyllis was preceded in death by her parents, Charles and Nadine Gardner; her sister, Beverly Peckham; and her brothers, Richard Gardner and Jim Gardner.
Visitation will take place Thursday, October 16, 2025 at Thomas Funeral Home in Centerville, with the family greeting friends from 11:00AM-1:00PM. Graveside services will be held at 2:30PM, Thursday, October 16, 2025 at Haines Cemetery, north of Centerville.
