Phyllis Jean Shinn's Obituary
Phyllis Jean Shinn, 84, of Centerville passed into the presence of her Lord on Friday, June 23, 2006 at Mercy Medical Center in Centerville.
She was born March 9,1922 in Exline, Iowa, the daughter of Wilford (Red) and Addie (McWilliams) McElderry. She married Lloyd L. Shinn on June 25, 1941 in Memphis, Missouri.
She liked to paint pictures and cut and piece quilt blocks.
Preceding her in death was her husband, Lloyd, in October 2004; her parents; a sister, Evelyn Hall; brothers-in-law Byron Hall, Francis Moore and Raymond Ellis. She graduated high school from Cincinnati, Iowa and taught school at Sedan, Iowa, for a while. She worked at the City Book Store and Ben Franklin store in Centerville, and wall papered for many people in the area.
She accepted Jesus Christ as her personal Saviour in 1974 and joined the First Baptist Church in Seymour in April of 1980. She had been attending Grace Tabernacle Baptist Church in Centerville up until her health prevented it.
She leaves behind a host of friends plus a son, Wayne Shinn and his wife Kathy of Centerville; a daughter, Judy Martin and her husband Jim of Plano, Iowa. Grandchildren: Dustin Shinn and his wife Marcy of Centerville; David Shinn and his wife Angela of Centerville; and Devan Shinn of West Des Moines, Iowa; and two great-grandchildren; Taylor and Brandon Shinn. Also two sisters; Marie Ellis of Inman Kansas and Eleanor Moore of Centerville, Iowa; a brother Darwin McElderry and his wife Ozetta of Exline, Iowa, and many nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held 1:30 PM Wednesday afternoon, June 28, 2006 at the Thomas Lange funeral home with Pastor Robert Pick officiating. Friends may call all day Tuesday with the family present from 6-8 PM at the Thomas Lange Funeral home. Burial will be in the Exline Cemetery.
