Dearest Fowlers, Jim and I are so sorry for you loss. Everyone of us has lost our cheerleader our encourager, and our friend. We have been celebrating her life though not in your company. Our own Amy lost her father in law last week. His funeral was Saturday and the graveside services were today. Jim did the services. Forgive us our absence. Have thought often of Phyllis's granddaughters who adored her. What lucky girls you were to hear her encouraging words. I think few of us knew how sick she was because she was always so positive and uplifting. She had agreed to teach Sunday School again after we left, always doing something for the Lord and her church. Great will be her reward . Saw her last June 24 at Jim's retirement. She was in the thick of things and so appreciative of our time spent at Moulton. What a great lady. One story. One Bible school there was a young boy chewing a balloon and I was fearful he might swallow it. I laid down the law in front of everyone and the young boy was not going to hand over the balloon. Phyllis saw what a predicament I was in. She took the young man outside, persuading him successfully to remove the balloon so he wouldn't choke to death. He came back in and apologized. I thought Phyllis was Wonder Woman.
Phyllis was a wonderful, warm person who always made you feel welcome and loved. I spent many times at her kitchen table and home with Grandma Horn, my mom, and the Fowler family. She always had kind words to say. The last time we visited over Facebook about a week ago, she called me a sweet girl, and I will miss her dearly. Prayers to her children and family. Phyllis was a wonderful friend to me the year I taught at Moulton-Udell School. I was new to Iowa and she took me under her wing and was the best friend to me that year. I learned a lot about teaching and friendship from Phyllis. She was such a positive and bubbly person, everyone loved her as did I. Through the years our paths crossed a few times in Centerville while shopping and she always had time to stop and visit and catch up with me. She is probably up there in heaven keeping those angels straight with her hugs and love. She touched many lives and will not be forgotten. Shirley Jourdan Cook, Seymour, Iowa.
