Phyllis Broshar's Obituary
Phyllis Broshar, age 94 of Centerville, Iowa passed away Wednesday, February 25, 2009 at Mercy Medical Center in Centerville.
Phyllis was born on August 29, 1914, the daughter of Harry and Josephine (Argo) Lemaster in Iconium, Iowa. She married Pearl Broshar on June 18, 1935 in Jefferson City, Missouri. He preceded her in death on June 12, 2002. Phyllis taught school for twenty eight years. She began her educational career teaching for the Mystic and Moravia country schools. Phyllis later taught and retired from the Moravia School District. After retirement, she continued to support her former students by attending the events that they were in.
Phyllis had a strong passion for cooking. She also loved spending time with her family. Phyllis was very active within the community that she lived. She was a member of PEO, Delta Kappa Gamma, Dorcas Circle, UMW, and the Hospital Auxillary. Phyllis was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Centerville for over sixty years.
Phyllis is survived by her daughter Judith Ann Arendt of Centerville, Iowa; two grandchildren, Todd (Kris) Arendt of Altoona, Iowa and Angela (Paul) Witmer of Des Moines, Iowa; five great grandchildren, Zachary and Hannah Arendt of Altoona, Iowa, Ben and Hannah Witmer of Des Moines, Iowa, and Bailey Hulin of Phoenix, Arizona; nieces Betty Dunham of Des Moines, Iowa, Jan Baldwin of Plymouth, Minnesota, and JoEllen (Arnold) Cutkomp of Columbus Junction, Iowa; a nephew Dick (Theresa) Brown of Iconium, Iowa; and a dear friend, Judy Swearingin. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband Pearl Broshar, a brother Adolf Lemaster; a sister Clara Brown; and two sisters in infancy.
Funeral services will be held 10:30 AM, Tuesday, March 3, 2009 at the First United Methodist Church in Centerville with Pastor Terra Amundson officiating. Burial will follow at the Iconium Cemetery. A visitation will be held Monday at Lange Funeral Home with family present from 6-8 PM that evening. A memorial has been established to the First United Methodist Church in Centerville and may be left at or mailed to Lange Funeral Home, 1900 S. 18th St., Centerville, Iowa, 52544.
