Philip Whicker's Obituary
Philip E. Whicker, age 88, of Moravia, passed away Sunday, January 4, 2026 at his home.
Phil was born on August 14, 1937 in Centerville, Iowa, the son of Clifford and Letha (Foster) Whicker. He graduated from Moravia High School with the Class of 1955. On March 16, 1957, Phil was united in marriage to Marilene “Ma” Lou Marvin, and to this union, three children were born, Terry, Ruby and Penny.
Phil was a truck driver throughout his life. He thoroughly enjoyed trucking and seeing the country, especially with his wife by his side. He also enjoyed tinkering with motors and woodworking in his free time. Phil was a very sweet man, always willing to lend a hand in need and loved teasing people, even having nicknames for everyone close to him- and some that were not as close. Most importantly, Phil cherished every moment he spent with his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Left to honor Phil’s memory are his children, Terry (Becky) Whicker, Ruby (Bobby) Starr, and Penny (Danny) Laux; his grandchildren, Shawnda (Kip) Starr, Philip (Crystal) Starr, Robert Douglas “Jake” Starr, Katie (Dillon) Hopwood, and Kacie (Josh) Laux; his great-grandchildren, Hannah (Kyler) Starr, Hayleigh Starr, Hunter Starr, Korey Shondel, Kaden Shondel, and Waylon Hopwood; as well as several extended family members and friends.
Phil was preceded in death by his wife, Marilene “Ma” Lou Whicker on February 20, 2020; his parents, Clifford and Letha Whicker; and his siblings, Carolyn Keener, Wayne Whicker, and Barbara “Ann” Smith.
Funeral services for Phil will be held at 1:00PM, Thursday, January 8, 2026 at Thomas Funeral Home in Centerville. Burial will follow the service at Hilltown Cemetery, south of Moulton. Visitation will take place Thursday, January 8, 2026 at Thomas Funeral Home in Centerville with the family greeting friends from 12:00PM-1:00PM.
