Pearl Edwin Sleeth's Obituary
Pearl Edwin ""Ed"" Sleeth, age 69, formerly of Cincinnati, Iowa, and now living in Hartford, died Friday, January 9, 2009 in Des Moines, Iowa.
Ed was born September 20, 1939, the son of Loyd Richard and Olive (Hayes) Sleeth in Bunch, Iowa near Centerville. Ed joined the Army at age 17 and served in the Korean War as a Master Mechanic. At retirement, he was a Sergeant First Class. He married Mary Taylor, April 4, 1975 in Colorado Springs, Colorado. He retired a second time as a truck driver in 2003 and was an avid hunter and fisherman. He was a very thoughtful and helpful person. Ed was a member of the VFW in Fountaine, Colorado.
Ed was survived by his mother, Olive Sleeth of Cincinnati, Iowa; son, Loyd ""Eddie"" (Brenda) Sleeth of Hartford, Iowa; daughters, Renee Larson of Bloomfield, Iowa and Denee Almay of Vancouver, Washington; step-daughters, Sandra Bonnicksen of Tuscan, Arizona, Merry Johnson of Frisco, Colorado, and Beth Chapman of Dunn, North Carolina; a step son, Larry ""Bert"" Thomas of Dunn, North Carolina; an adopted son, Joel Sleeth; six sisters, Carol Farris of Centerville, Iowa, Barbara Sleeth of Cincinnati, Iowa, Virginia ""Jennie"" (Hal May) Johnson of Ankeny, Iowa, Lucy (Tony) Russo of Norwalk, Iowa, Glenda (Tommy) Davis of South Carolina, and Lola (Chris) Brown of Cincinnati, Iowa; five brothers, Gilbert Sleeth of Des Moines, Iowa, Paul (Chick) Sleeth of Washington, Gerald (Tina) Sleeth of Oroville, Washington, Randy (Linda) Sleeth of Oregon, and Danny (Barbara) Sleeth of Des Moines, Iowa; and grandchildren, Lindsey Sue Sleeth, Brian Albert Sleeth, Bradley Michael Sleeth, Ashley Nicole Sleeth, Robert Howard, Lawrence Howard, Telina Almy, Jason Almy, Carl Larson, Floyd Larson; great grandchildren, Daniel Almy, Caitlin Larson and Christa Larson. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Elaine, son, Bobby; third wife, Mary; father, Loyd Richard; and a grandchild, Lydia Sue Sleeth.
Funeral services will be held 2 PM, Wednesday, January 14, 2009 at the Lange Funeral Home in Centerville, Iowa. Burial with Military Rites will follow at the Exline Cemetery. A visitation will be held prior to the service on Wednesday with family present from 12-2 PM. A memorial has been established to the family and may be left at or mailed to the Lange Funeral Home, 1900 S. 18th St., Centerville, Iowa 52544.
