Pearl Lamentia's Obituary
Sylvia Pearl Lamantia, age 85 of Centerville, Iowa died Saturday, January 13, 2007 at the Golden Age Care Center, Centerville following a short illness. She was born in Plano, Iowa on January 1st, 1922 to John Clyde McKern and Zelma Kaster McKern. She attended country schools in Appanoose County and graduated from Moravia High School in 1940. She was a local business owner in Centerville for many years. She first owned the Midway Inn Grill and later owned and operated Pearl's Tavern for over 30 years, retiring in 1992.
She is survived by one daughter, Anita Holmes of Steamboat Springs, CO, and one granddaughter Katherine Holmes of Steamboat Springs, CO; three sisters, Ava Foster of Ottumwa, IA, Josephine Kennis of Bettendorf, IA, and Jackie Morrison of Montezuma, IA. Sylvia was preceded in death by her parents; three sisters, Leah Ervin, Hazel Bethell, and Edna Mae McKern; three brothers, Bud, Jack, and Lynn Hoyt McKern; and her grandson Andrew Holmes.
A memorial service will be held 1:00 PM, Tuesday, January 16th, 2007 at the Thomas Lange Funeral Home. A memorial has been established to the family and may be left at or mailed to the Thomas Lange Funeral Home, 1900 S. 18th St., Centerville, IA 52544.
