Patsy Ann Nelson's Obituary
Patsy Ann Nelson, 90 of Cincinnati, Iowa passed on quietly at Centerville Specialty Care in Centerville, Iowa to be with her heavenly family on July 10, 2022 She had to persevere through many room changes, covid and covid testing, being without family and friends was difficult for her not able to call family because of this time in our country and world. She did enjoy going outside and being in the fresh air whenever weather permitted. She also like to tease the staff to help pass time. After all Patsy (Mom) was a med-aide for years in Des Moines as well as working at the Golden Age Care Center in Centerville in early years.
Patsy Ann Nelson was born on April 16, 1932 to Thomas H. and Lucille (Bryant) Whitacre. Her father Thomas worked as union underground coal mining and he even pastured the ponies from the mine. Her mother was a homemaker but also worked in the war office. Patsy was born in Kansas City, MO and was the youngest of eight children.
She married Jack L. Moriarty at the age of 16 on May 30, 1948. They made their home in Cincinnati, Iowa until 1960 moving to Wyoming. They headed out in their 1953 Ford car and five children to be sure it was a long and tiring trip. Their brand-new Saber Mobile home was there awaiting their arrival. In a short time, they moved to Buffalo, Wyoming. The couple later divorced and Patsy moved back to Iowa. Later moving to Centerville.
Patsy then met and married Dave Nelson. The couple moved to Webster City and Eagle Grove, Iowa where she. Patsy and Dave divorced and Patsy proudly moved back to Cincinnati, Iowa buying the home that was her parents' house many years earlier. Patsy worked in various jobs throughout her career as homemaker and mother to eight children. She also worked at Pearl's Tavern and Nissen Meat Co and did factory work in Missouri before finally retiring from health care as a CNA and Med Aide. She then started driving the Amish. Which she enjoyed their company. Patsy loved playing her piano, gardening, flea marketing and garage sales. She had an eye for antiques, which she picked up and gave to us kids.
She is survived by her children, Son, Bill (Grace)Moriarty of Bullhead City, AZ; Daughter, Pamela Cale of Wibaux, MT; Daughter, Shelley (Rich) Rethman of Eagle Grove, Iowa; Daughter, Teri (Paul) Fawcett of Lehigh, Iowa, Daughter, Melissa (Jim) Hassan, Nunda, NY; son, Leslie (Heather) Schramm of Centerville Iowa; son Gary of Des Moines Iowa. She has 16 Grandchildren and Numerous Great grandchildren across the country.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Thomas & Lucille Whitacre; son, Timothy Moriarty; grandson, Naaman W. Burman; all of her sibling, Mary, Thomas, Emily, Norman Jean, Donald, James and all of her brother and sister-n-laws. Tony Barshchenski, Nadine (Chapman), Bill (Wimpy) Morgan, Orville Warren, and Lenore (Sparks) Whitacre.
