Patricia Ann Runkle O'Brien was born to Don and Mary Runkle on January 9, 1954 at Chillicothe, Missouri in Livingston County. Pat graduated from Davis County High School in Bloomfield, Iowa in 1972. Pat was united in marriage to Michael William O'Brien on July 3, 1975. To this union they were blessed with three wonderful children: Jeremy, Dallas and Bridget. She lost her battle with cancer on July 4, 2010 at Methodist Hospital in Des Moines at the age of 56. Pat was a person who lived, loved and laughed often. She maintained a sunny outlook that made a lasting impression on the countless people whose lives she touched. Pat's first priority was her family. Together with her husband, Mike, they passed on the same joy and appreciation for life to their children. Her nine grandchildren brought her immense delight and pleasure from their laughs and giggles to their many activities, going on trail rides and just hanging out at Grandma Pat's and Papa Mike's house. Pat and Mike shared an appreciation for the farm life having both grown up on farms themselves. They have managed to enjoy farm life no matter if they were living in town or on the farm. They kept busy breeding a fine line of Quarter Horses and raising cattle. The community also benefited from Pat's constant willingness to contribute. She was a welcoming presence in the Wayne County Farm Bureau Office at Corydon. Pat was especially proud to write and share the stories about Farm Bureau members. Mike and Pat were both involved in the horse-riding group WHOA (Wayne Horse Owners Association) and they have enjoyed all the activities and friendships they have made. Pat is survived by her husband of 35 years, Michael William O'Brien of Corydon, son Jeremy and wife Amanda of Corydon and their children Lane and Clara, son Dallas and wife Jocelyn of Milo and their children Brynn, Skylar, and Halle, and daughter Bridget and husband Troy Goretska of Corydon and their children Chloe, Morgan, Tyson, and Trey. She is also survived by her mother, Mary Runkle of Ottumwa, Iowa, sister Donna Runkle and husband Al Dillenburg of Johnstown, Ohio, sister Carol Schumaker of Colorado Springs, Colorado, brother Neal and wife Teri of Ottumwa, Iowa, and brother Craig and wife Carla of Cherry Valley, Arkansas.
