Otto LeRoy Fletcher's Obituary
Otto LeRoy Fletcher, age 82 of Unionville, Iowa, passed away Wednesday, December 20, 2023 at MercyOne in Centerville.
LeRoy was born on August 3, 1941 in Centerville, Iowa, the son of Carroll and Bertha (Breese) Fletcher. He was raised in Moulton, Iowa by his grandparents, Ottie and Carrie Whicker. He graduated from Centerville High School with the Class of 1959. He then furthered his education, attending college for a year. On February 3, 1962, LeRoy was united in marriage to the love of his life, Zelda Engle. Together the couple had two children, Anita and Michael. Over the course of 12 years, they fostered many children.
LeRoy worked as a draftsman at ISU for a period of time. Later, he worked at Union Carbide/Curwood, or as he called it "the plant", where he retired after over 30 years. In his free time, when it wasn't spent with his family, he enjoyed mowing and woodworking. He even had a large collection of antique tools that he treasured.
Left to honor LeRoy's memory are his son, Michael (Dana) Fletcher; his daughter, Anita (David) McCarley; four grandchildren, Joshua VanAntwerp, Evan VanAntwerp, Heidi (John) Fry, and Nate (Auddie) Fletcher; seven great grandchildren; a sister, Nina Faye (Jerry McGee); as well as several extended family and friends.
LeRoy was preceded in death by his wife, Zelda Fletcher; his parents, Bertha and Carroll Fletcher; and his grandparents, Ottie and Carrie Whicker.
Per LeRoy's wishes, cremation has been accorded. A Celebration of Life service will be held Saturday, January 13, 2023 at Thomas Funeral Home in Centerville with Pastor Steve Larson officiating. Burial will take place at Haines Cemetery, north of Centerville. Visitation will take place Friday, January 12, 2023 at Thomas Funeral Home in Centerville, with the family greeting friends from 5:00-7:00PM.
