OPAL MARIE JOHNSTON Opal Marie Johnston, age 94, of Seymour, IA, died Friday, January 9, 2015 at the Corydon Care Center. She was born the daughter of Zern and Ella Klinger Niday on June 8, 1920 in Wayne County Iowa. She graduated from Sewal Consolidated School in 1937. She married Perle Johnston on January 24, 1942 in Unionville, Missouri. She was a devoted wife and took care of her invalid husband for 12 years. She enjoyed gardening, quilting, crocheting, playing cards and tending her flowers. She was a faithful member of the Busy Stitchers neighborhood club which she helped start in 1947 and still continues today. Preceding her in death was her husband, Perle, a grandson Brian Dale Johnston, a brother Ervin Niday, and a brother-in law, Lewis Pogeler. Opal is survived by a sister Ermal Pogeler of Arnolds Park, IA; a sister-in law Leila Niday of Seymour; her children Janet Lucas and husband Harry, Phil Johnston and wife Linda, Kenny Johnston and wife Sheila; seven grandchildren Melinda Lucas McElvain, Rhonda Johnston Wouters, Lori Johnston Jewett, Brent Johnston, Dana Johnston Marten, Greg Johnston, and Jeff Johnston; and seventeen great grandchildren.
