Opal Mathes' Obituary
Opal Mathes, age 74, of Centerville, Iowa, passed away Monday, March 4, 2019 at her home.
Opal was born on February 18, 1945 in Centerville, Iowa, the daughter of Harrell and Mabel Wendland. Opal was united in marriage to Floyd "Runt" Mathes, and to this union, four children were born, Pam, Betty, Loraine, and Michael. They were later divorced.
In her younger years, Opal worked at McGraw Edison in Centerville. She later worked at Golden Age Care Center as a CNA, and at Gordies Bar and Grill in Centerville. She loved gardening and being outdoors. She enjoyed quilting and playing solitaire. Most importantly, she cherished spending time with her entire family.
Left to cherish Opals memory include her children, Pam Mathes of Exline, Iowa and Betty Hendrix of Washburn, Missouri; her siblings, Donna (Harold) Dudley, Nora (Chuck) Farris, Charles Wendland and Carl Wendland; 13 grandchildren; 15 great grandchildren; as well as many nieces and nephews.
Opal was preceded in death by her parents, Harrell and Mabel Wendland; a daughter, Loraine Mathes; a son, Michael Mathes; and a great granddaughter, Jayci Shrum.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00AM, Friday, March 8, 2019 at Lange Funeral Home and Crematory in Centerville with Pastor Christy Ehrle officiating. Burial will follow the service at Exline Cemetery in Exline. A Visitation will take place Friday, March 8, 2019 at Lange Funeral Home in Centerville, with the family greeting friends from 10:00-11:00AM. Memorials have been established to the family of Opal Mathes, to be determined at a later date, and may be mailed to Lange Funeral Home and Crematory, 1900 South 18th Street, Centerville, Iowa.
