Opal R. King's Obituary
Opal R. King, age 92, of Centerville, Iowa, died Sunday, March 27, 2005, at Mercy Medical Center's Long Term Care in Centerville, Iowa. She was born the daughter of Ralph and Blanche (Deahl) Talbot on October 16, 1912 in Centerville, Iowa. She graduated from the Centerville Community School in 1932, Centerville Junior College, and the University of Commerce in Des Moines, Iowa where she also played on the basketball and softball teams.On April 19, 1947, Opal was united in marriage to Tom King in Kansas City, Kansas. She was a bookkeeper for over 40 years at the Craver Lumber Company in Centerville. She was a lifetime member of American Legion Auxiliary, AmVets, and the Historical Society, all in Centerville, and also was named Woman of the Year by the AmVets for the State of Iowa. She was a member of Fairview Church of the Brethren for many years. She enjoyed being outdoors where she could go hunting, fishing, and watch ballgames.She was preceded in death by: her parents; step-brothers, Ralph and Chris Dudley, and step-sister, Sherry Wilson Hughes.She is survived by: her husband, Tom King, of Centerville as well as a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and many dear friends.Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, March 30, 2005 at 11 AM at the Schmidt Family Funeral Home in Centerville, Iowa with Rev. Greg Jones officiating. Burial will follow at the Fairview Cemetery south of Unionville, Iowa. Visitation will be held on Tuesday, March 29, 2005 at the Schmidt Family Funeral Home in Centerville from 1 PM until 8 PM with the family present from 6 till 8 PM at the funeral home.Memorials can be made in her name to either the Fairview Church of the Brethren or to the Historical Society and can be left at or mailed to the To send flowers or a memorial gift to the family of Opal R.
