Oda Buban's Obituary
Oda Irene Buban, age 95, of 19999 St. Joseph Drive, Apt. 41, Centerville, Iowa, died Monday, March 24, 2008 at Mercy Medical Center in Centerville.
Oda was born June 15, 1912, the daughter of Elven and Lula (Phelps) Fenton in Brushy, Iowa. She graduated from Centerville High School. Oda married Frank Buban October 29, 1932 at the St. Mary's Catholic Church in Centerville, Iowa. He preceded her in death on June 26, 1992. Oda was well known in the Centerville area for her famous pies and breads. She worked twenty-five years for Father Jungwirth and Father Ed Weigel at St. Francis Church in Mystic. Oda loved sewing and working in her garden. She also enjoyed helping her husband on their dairy farm. Oda was a member of the St. Mary's Catholic Church, the 18-80 Club in Centerville, and she played the piano at St. Francis Church in Mystic.
Oda is survived by four children, Charles (Fay) Buban of Mystic, Iowa, Marie (Charles) Montegna of Centerville, Iowa, Pauline (Joe) Yencsik of Ottumwa, Iowa, and Paul (Bellina) Buban of Oskaloosa, Iowa; a sister Ola Marie (Melvin) Stropes of Rock Island, Illinois; a brother Neven (Mina) Fenton of Milian, Illinois; sixteen grandchildren; several great grandchildren and great-great grandchildren. Oda was preceded in death by her parents; her husband Frank; two sons, Johnnie and Ronnie Buban; two brothers, Roy Fenton and Martin Fenton; five sisters, Iza Tracy, Osa Repp, Iva Repp, Evelyn Fenton, and an infant sister Ellen.
Mass of the Resurrection will be held 10 AM Saturday, March 29, 2008 at the St. Mary's Catholic Church in Centerville with Fr. Tim Guthridge officiating. Burial will follow at the Oakland Cemetery, Centerville, Iowa. Pallbearers for the service will be, Tim Baird, Jim Buban, Tony Buban, Travis Buban, Larry Bettis, Chris Monohon. Visitation will be held Friday night with family present from 6-8 PM with the Rosary Service starting at 6 PM at the Thomas Lange Funeral Home. A memorial has been established to the St. Mary's Catholic Church and may be left at or mailed to the Thomas Lange Funeral Home, 1900 S. 18th St., Centerville, Iowa 52544.
